To my constituents:

I am very grateful for the more than 1,000 votes cast for me in the 2024 election despite the fact I ran unopposed. I am mindful you could have skipped the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner section on the ballot or not voted at all. I am honored to have such generous support.

I will remain proactive through my regular newsletter, online surveys, focused Zoom calls, network of neighborhood liaisons, and daily face-to-face interaction with residents. I will strive to be immediately responsive to your requests for assistance on matters ranging from trash collection to traffic-calming, from bioretention beds to bus route changes, from residential building code violations to the Civic Core redevelopment. I will continue to be on the ground in the neighborhood and available by email, text, or phone 24/7.

To inform the ANC’s decision-making process, I will seek first to understand the issues at hand and then to share the facts and background with you. Once I do, I trust you are as intelligent, wise, and ethically grounded as I to render a judgment on the matters at hand. Accordingly, I will again vote based on your views, not my own.

The vision of the ANCs, as created by the Home Rule Act of 1973, is to bring government closer to the people and the people closer to the government. The mission, per the Office of the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, is to be the neighborhood voice. ANCs are thus the agency of our local democracy; the Commissioners are the agents.

My job, in essence, is to make our local democracy work — for all of you. That’s what I will be focused on doing for the next two years.

Many thanks again to one and all for the votes of confidence.

Bruce
